Local Environmental and Pro-European Groups Build Momentum for Stronger Environmental Protection in Chichester

Chichester - 12 July 2025
Local environmental organisations and pro-European groups in Chichester are strengthening cooperation to improve environmental protection by linking grassroots action with wider European collaboration. A recent Euro Café event, hosted by Chichester4Europe (CFE) in partnership with Transition Town Chichester (TTC), demonstrated how working together locally and across borders can deliver better outcomes for climate, nature and community wellbeing.

The event highlighted the shared understanding that environmental challenges do not respect national boundaries. Participants explored how local initiatives can benefit from European cooperation — sharing ideas, best practice and proven approaches to tackling climate change, biodiversity loss, clean water and sustainable development.

This growing local collaboration reflects the priorities of Caroline Lucas, who in her new role as Co-President of the European Movement UK has been urging closer UK–EU cooperation on environmental issues. Lucas has warned that the UK risks lagging behind other European countries on environmental standards unless cooperation is strengthened — particularly through active engagement at local and community level, in line with wider European environmental ambitions.

Building on the success of the Euro Café, CFE and TTC have confirmed they are organising a further joint meeting, continuing the conversation and developing practical next steps for local action informed by European experience. Organisers say the aim is to turn shared concern into coordinated action that benefits both the local environment and wider efforts to restore nature and tackle climate change.

Together, these initiatives show how strong local partnerships, combined with European perspectives and ambition, can help communities like Chichester play a meaningful role in protecting the environment for current and future generations.
