The passing of a great European.

Oliver Hayward was Chairman of the Sussex European Movement throughout the 1980's and early 90's. Oliver was a Senior Civil Servant in the Foreign Office and devoted a great part of his life to promoting and defending our beliefs. He was instrumental in setting up numerous public meetings with guest speakers such as Shirley Williams, Madron Seligman MEP and Sir Edward Heath former PM who originally took the UK into the EEC. The Sussex EM was very active and received a large following. At that time we were up against the National Front and we were often bombarded by this extreme right group who were set on destroying our Movement. Europe has lost a great European and our condolences go out to his wife Ila who was also very active in the EM and to his family.

Oliver was in his early 90's .
